Tips:

How to search your website for keywords to
see what you've already posted about a topic

Why would you need to search your website for keywords? Well, have you ever come up with a great idea for a content page, but something in the back of your mind says you've already addressed the issue?

Wading through page after page can get tedious and burn up your precious time. It can also bring your creative juices to a halt.

While creating a detailed index of your pages would be great, who has the time (or sets aside the time) to develop one. Not me. Still an index would be handy when I can't quickly recall all the stuff I've written on say the term "gutter." So this is what I do - keyword search my website.

Google: My helpful friend

I use Google's query box to look through my site for the keyword "gutter." The results appear just like a normal Google results page but all the listings belong to my website. Pretty cool.

Here's an example of how it works. Today, I couldn't remember if I wrote an article about the "So what" method for finding a company's unique selling proposition. So I went to www.google.com and in the query box I typed in...

site:katzanne.com "So what"

...hit the "Google Search" button and voila - I got my answer. I need to work up an article about using the "So what" method because it works wonders helping marketers find their niche market and what makes their company truly unique.

Go ahead and try it yourself. Copy this line of text...

site:katzanne.com "So what"

...and place it into a Google search box and see what the results come up. Then try it again for a keyword on your own website. (You don't need to put "www" before your url and you don't need the quote marks around your query term if it's a single word.)

This little trick to search your website, help you save time and keep you from posting redundant material. You can use it to hunt through other websites, as well, and speed up your research - especially on large sites without site query boxes of their own.

What clients are
saying about katzanne

"Recently, we were faced with developing a new corporate identity... While trying to appeal to many past customers, we also wanted to update and modernize our perception for new business interests.

Although time constraints were somewhat unreasonable, Kathi was able to produce under pressure, with no sacrifice in quality. We were pleased to hear her suggestions and have an interchange of dialogue on the best approaches... In the past, we have dealt with some other close-minded professionals who were focused solely on having us see “their vision”.

Our original hesitations proved to be unfounded, as we enjoyed collaborative process."
