Connect with small businesses through outreach and engagement materials
Developing a community outreach program to utilize small, minority or disadvantage businesses as vendors, service providers or subcontractors is simply good business. - If you're a government agency or large company receiving public funding, chances are the awarding agency requires you to spend a portion of their contract monies with minorities businesses.
- You build good will within your community by helping a disadvantage business grow.
- You save money by outsourcing.
- You increase the economic stability of your community.
The challenges you face Finding someone who can do the job well is easy, but hiring s company that meets the qualifications defined by the awarding agency is another matter. To overcome this challenge, some organizations: - Develop outreach programs to identify qualified businesses.
- Conduct workshops to help businesses meet the requirements.
- Provide do-it-yourself resources to business owners.
I've found the best results come from using a combination of all the above. Start your outreach efforts by...
Building your list If you don't already have a list of potential small, minority and disadvantages businesses, you should start now. - Collect the names and contact information you already have into a Small & Minority Business database.
- Create a lead generation piece and place it on your website. For example: How to do business with the "Big Fish" free report or quide.
- Have your webmaster create a short form your visitor must fill out before receiving the report and add that information into your database.
- Identify which radio programs draw the largest number of your target audience and direct them to call or visit your website and download your lead generation piece.
- Place a Public Notice/Advertisement in the local newspaper and any paper that tailors to your target group and direct them to call or visit your website and download your lead generation piece.
- Ask your current vendors and business acquaintances for referrals.
- Find out if the different minority groups in your community have their own Chambers of Commerce and contact them.
There are plenty of ways you can reach out to these businesses. But like any successful venture, it takes a plan and marketing resources. What clients are saying about katzanne
"Recently, we were faced with developing a new corporate identity... While trying to appeal to many past customers, we also wanted to update and modernize our perception for new business interests.
Although time constraints were somewhat unreasonable, Kathi was able to produce under pressure, with no sacrifice in quality. We were pleased to hear her suggestions and have an interchange of dialogue on the best approaches... In the past, we have dealt with some other close-minded professionals who were focused solely on having us see “their vision”. Our original hesitations proved to be unfounded, as we enjoyed collaborative process." Nathan “Ashley” Stone Designer Patti Marine Enterprises, Inc. Pensacola, Florida
